DMS completed the installation at the Birchmount Energy Centre, one of Markham District Energy’s three main power plants. The facility consists of a 2.6 MW combined heat and power (CHP) system along with 10 MW of additional heating and cooling capacity. Equipment installed included a 2.6 MW Caterpillar natural gas generator, exhaust heat recovery, boilers, cooling towers, absorption chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, and expansion tanks. The piping systems included hot water, chilled water, natural gas, generator exhaust, boiler exhaust breeching, compressed air, urea, potable water, and drainage.
Our scope included all piping system installation, millwrighting and equipment rigging, HVAC installation, steel fabrication and erection, and other general construction requirements. Regulated piping systems were installed to CSA B51, ASME B31.1, and B31.3 in accordance with TSSA regulations, ensuring a safe, reliable, and code-compliant plant supporting Markham’s district energy network.
